Top 5 Favorite Movies

Did anyone see Gladiator on TV the other night? Let me just tell you that I LOVE that movie!! I know that some people might find it strange that I like such a graphic and violent movie, but I really do. I actually have it on DVD, but sat there for the commercials and all just to watch it on TV. Guess that tells you how lazy I am. So much so that I wouldn't walk down the stairs, open the entertainment center doors, grab the Gladiator case, walk back upstairs and put it in the DVD machine. I could have watched it with NO commercials, cut the running time down dramatically right? Did I get up? Nope!!,LAZY I tell you!

Glen and I watched it together which if you read my last post, you already know that that is one of my FAVORITE things to do. So we sat there, me quoting parts of the movie, Glen laughing at me, both of us enjoying one of my favorite movies of all time. Now Glen and I have our top 5 favorite movies and for some reason talk about them every now and then. He likes some REALLY cheesy movies. You know, Caddyshack! Are you kidding me? How can that be one of his favorite movies? To each their own, right?

So I thought that it would be fun to ask everyone their top 5 favorite movies. They do NOT have to be in any order. I am just curious to see how alike/different we all are in our movie choices.

Here are my top 5 favorite movies of all time:
  • The Patriot
  • Braveheart
  • Gladiator
  • Les Miserables
  • Dances With Wolves (this is the one that I change every now and again, just for fun)

Blogger said "NO!"

Uh-Oh. Blogger did NOT like JUST Sassafrass. I guess that it was a little too close to a word that means bottom. SO, I am going with All That Sassafrass. Theresa's pick I think. I hope that this isn't causing problems with people finding my blog. I have noticed that a few people have already changed it on their blogroll, so that is good sign, right? This will be my only name change I promise. Thanks for hanging in there with me!!

New Name Announcement and Elementary Years

Well, after much thought and consideration, I have decided on.......................Drum Roll Please!..........................Sassafrass. And I might even use Stephanie's idea of A little bit sass, A little bit frass. Thanks to everyone that helped me on that one. Ya'll had such GREAT ideas. I knew I had some creative readers out there. AND it was fun right? Hopefully soon, I will have a new "look" to my blog too. It is in the works.

So, on to other things. I was tagged by
Lori over at Glass Half Full. Yes the absolute gorgeous Lori who comments on my posts. She tagged me to remember some things about my Elementary years. So before I begin, I will tag someone too. Oh who to tag? I tag Stephanie.

I really do have a bad memory, so bear with me. I do remember specific things and moments about my Elementary years though. So here goes:

I recall coming out of my first grade classroom crying to my mom holding the first B I ever got on a paper. She of course loved on me and told me it was OK. Sadly that was the first of MANY B's in school. But I DO remember that 1st one. :)

I remember in second grade we learned how to add and subtract. And that there was this girl in my class that did not behave, named April and she had to sit behind a partition. I liked April and always felt sorry gor her.

In third grade, everyone started liking boys. There was a boy that I thought was cute, named Kurt. We were friends, but he was "going out" with my best friend Paige. She always got the cute boys! Third grade people!! I've already told my girls that they can't have a boyfriend till they are 16. To which Parker (5) says, " I ALREADY have a boyfriend!" Uggh!

In fourth grade, the girly rivalry thing really came into play. Me, Paige and a girl named Kim ALWAYS were fighting with each other. You know the 2 against 1 thing. Not so fun. But Ha! Ha! who is still friends? Me and Paige! Where is Kim now? (That sounds tacky doesn't it?) Hey the truth is the truth people!!

In fifth grade, Kurt (Yes the cute one) and I got a spanking from the principal for arguing about the food in the lunchroom. Not what you think. Probably worse than you think. He told me that he would give me his pudding if I would give him MY roll. Well he ate the pudding AND the roll. I wasn't happy about it, so I guess I through a wall eyed fit. So we got caught fighting about it and went to the principal's office and got swats with the board! Thanks Kurt!

In the summer after my fifth grade year. we moved from a small Poe Dunk town, to a bigger town. That was the summer I went to MY first church camp and met miss Cherise. I loved her from the minute I met her! What a sweetheart! Also, that year in school I tried to change my laugh (I laughed really loud) and wanted to become a different person. Didn't work out so well. To this day I laugh loud. And I remember that year putting a whoopi cushion under the boy sitting in front of me in class. I wouldn' t really call me the class clown even though it does sound like it huh? I just liked to make people laugh. I'm not helping my case here am I? OK.

Well, those are moments from my Elementary Years. I hope this doesn't make me sound like a weird little girl. Cause I really wasn't. These are just memories that popped up in my head. My teachers always like me, I always got good grades. The only thing was I liked to talk.....ALOT! and laugh......ALOT! That is just who I was and pretty much.

Stephanie, Go for it!!

New Name

OK. Calling all creative and non-creative people that happen upon my blog! I am shopping for a new name for this thing that at the moment I call Nicole's blog. What was I thinking? I really wasn't. That's the truth.

When I began this blog adventure, I was just trying to see what it was like to be in the "in" blogging crowd. Just trying to fit in, is that so wrong? :) It seemed like everyone at my Mother's Day Out was ALWAYS talking about blogging and I was the only one that didn't even have a computer. So when I got one, I thought, "OK, now I can be a blogger too!!" So I signed up last month not really thinking that it would be a creative outlet, and now here I am addicted. So, back to the point (I promise there is one).....I need a new and creative name for my blog. I would LOVE everyone that has ever even read this to give an idea. Even if you think that it is cheesy. Come on people! Work with me here.

*******I do have to say that I am not a HUGE fan of the Mommy blog names - for ME!!! All the really cute ones are already taken, and I want something so unique and different. It could be a play on my name or just about anything!!!

Here are a few that I have thought of and you can either vote for one of these or come up with something original.

*Camogirl or something along those lines- I love camoflauge

*Sassafrass - I like to say that!

* Nickel and Dime (both nicknames) - this along with Camogirl is taken, so again something along these lines.

OK! Let the ideas roll!

4th of July pictures

Happy Fourth of July!!

We had our annual Fourth of July celebration at Glen's grandparents house today. These celebrations REALLY are unlike any other Fourth of July I have ever been to. Glen's Grandaddy is a Brigadier General in the Army and is the most patriotic man I know. They have been having this celebration at their house for 30 years now. Every year, Glen's Grandaddy and Grandmama invite all their family and friends (and the family and friends of those family and friends!) over (around 80 people). They even invite their local Fire Dept. They put flags and red, white, and blue decorations all over their property. We have a flag ceremony first with a drummer boy leading the pack. Pariotic music plays on the stereo and then one by one each grandchild (and now even great-grandchildren) files out from around the side of the house to place a flag into the ground in the front yard. After 8 flags are in the ground, the BIG flag is raised on the flag pole while we sing The Star Spangled Banner with music. Grandaddy always tries to shoot off this little cannon thing, but sometimes (like this year) it doesn't work. We always end the ceremony with a prayer and then we all head in the house for lunch. Of course the Fire Dept. always gets to go through the line of food first. We all eat AWESOME food and dessert. My whole family looks forward to this event every year. I'm not sure what everyone else's Fourth of July's are like, but I can't imagine doing anything else on this special day.

More Birthday Pictures

Me and Parker

Parker's 5th birthday party

Parker turned 5 on Thursday. So yesterday we had her party in the backyard. We had her party at the pool last year and this year she wanted to do another swim party, so we just had all kinds of water activities in the back. We had a slide into the pool, Slip and Slide, beach balls on the trampoline with the water hose, a cool sprinkler and of course water guns. We gave the water guns and beach balls as the party favors. Parker also wanted to have an Easter egg hunt for the game. I thought that that was such a creative and different idea and it was one less thing for me to have to think of, so we did it. Glen thought that it was a little bizarre to be having an Easter egg hunt at a birthday party, but it was HER party, right? The kids had a blast. I mean what kid doesn't love to play in the water and hunting for candy?

So I have seen a lot of moms do the Works For Me Wednesday thing. I on the other hand don't, so I thought that I would take a second and tell you something that I think it kind of cool and works for me. When my oldest(now 9) was a baby and turning one, I thought it would be cool to make her first birthday cake. So I did. But I didn't stop there. Ever since then, I have made every birthday cake/ big birthday cookie for every one of my kid's birthdays. It has become a tradition that we all love. Sometimes I do dread making it, but when I see their little faces light up with excitement when they see what I've made for them, it is ALL worth it. They get to decide which they want - cake or big cookie, AND what they want on it. I just went to the store and bought some cake decorating supplies and use the same ones every time. Now all I have to buy is the cake mix and the icing. It is so much cheaper that buying a cake. And cake is cake. The kids don't care. Especially if they get to pick what is on it. Parker wanted a big 5 on hers this time, so I just put Parker is 5 on it. Of course she loved it. I am trying to post a picture if it and it doesn't seem to want to load. So sorry! It was another no makeup picture anyway! HA.

I have to admit that about 3 times now my kids have had birthday brunches and we have BOUGHT (I know, I know!) their favorite donuts and stacked them up and put candles in it for a cake. So I have to admit that I have cheated a few times. But they got to decide that too, so they were happy.
